The Simcoe Xtreme Volleyball Club Lightning struck bronze over the weekend at a 15U McGregor Cup volleyball tournament.
After ranking second in its pool, that also had the Norfolk Volleyball Club
Chaos Fury, the Xtreme battled hard in the playoffs and came away with
bronze medals thanks to a 2-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-11) win over the Niagara
Fury.
In the playoff round, they beat the Waterloo Tigers 2-1 (25-21, 16-25, 16-14) in the quarter-final, before losing 2-0 to the Niagara Rapids Rage 2-0 (20-25, 21-25), setting up the bronze medal game against the Fury.
In round robin action, they began with a 2-0 (26-24, 25-16) win over
Norfolk Chaos Fury, before dropping a tough 2-1 (25-10, 12-25, 13-25)
decision to the Grimsby Viper Strike.
The Norfolk Chaos was represented by a pair of teams in the Fury and Revolution.
The Revolution ended up in fifth spot overall in the tournament, thanks
to a 2-0 (25-15, 28-26) win over their Fury clubmates in the
quarter-final, before losing 2-0 (25-18, 25-20) to the Niagara Rapids
Surge.
They began with a 2-1 (25-22, 21-25, 15-11) win over the
Waterloo Tigers, before losing 2-1 (25-20, 13-25, 12-25) to the Niagara
Rapids Surge.
The Norfolk Chaos Fury lost 2-0 (25-12, 25-12) to the Grimsby Viper Strike, and 2-0 to the Xtreme.
The Xtreme is going to host a pair of Ontario Volleyball Association tournaments over the next little bit at Holy Trinity. This weekend, the 14U team hosts a full schedule on Saturday, while the 15U team hosts a tournament on February 29.
