Doug Moyaert and a small group of volunteers have built it. Now they are waiting for the players to come.

On Friday, Delhi Minor Hockey’s newest entry, the U21 Rockets will hit the ice for the first time.

“We’re excited to get going,” said Moyaert, the U21 convenor in Delhi who is also tackling the managing duties. We’ve had a lot of interest. We’ve got everything in place to make this thing a success. Now it’s time to get going.”

The Rockets will be sponsored by On Time Precision Components (OTPC), and running the team from behind the bench is Fred Mabee.

“He’s had some great success in town with the kids at this age level in baseball,” Moyaert said. “He’s a great person to have on board.”

The Rockets will play in the Beechey U21 League.

“I really think this is the best model for kids at this age,” Moyaert said. “Junior teams are forking out $100,000 to run teams nowadays. This gets local kids out playing the game they love. And with Friday night home games we will have some great crowds out to watch these local players on the ice.”

If players are interested in trying out, they need to register online CLICK HERE. There is a $25 fee to try out, and Moyaert can be contacted at 519-582-2886 for more information.
