The Port Dover Sailors did everything they could to breathe some life into its playoff hopes against the Hagersville Hawks Jr C Hockey on Thursday at home. But those hopes were dashed by Jamie Ferguson.
Ferguson made 46 saves, while Peter Cappucci and Matt Weston scored two goals each to lead the Hawks to a 7-5 win. And with the win, the Hawks sweep the best-of-seven Provincial Junior Hockey League Bloomfield Division quarter-final.
The Sailors had a huge effort from Ben Mason, who scored a hat trick, while George Kapralos added three assists. Davin Carte and David Palmer scored the other Sailors goals.
Patrick Sanelli, Connor Stirling, and Alastair Irvine also scored for the Hawks.
The Hawks, who are the Bloomfield Division’s second seed, now wait for its semifinal opponent.
SHAMROCKS MOVE ON
The Hespeler Jr C Shamrocks needed overtime beat and eliminate the Dundas Blues Thursday.
Playing on the road, Kyle Wagner was the overtime hero, giving the
Shamrocks a 7-6 victory. With the win, the Shamrocks, who are the fifth
seed, beat the fourth-seeded Blues 4-2 in the best-of-seven Bloomfield
Division quarter-final.
MERCHANTS DOWN 3-0
The Ayr Centennials have pushed the Norwich Jr C Merchants to the brink.
Despite Mason Cooper scoring the game’s opening goal for the Merchants
early in the game, the Centennials bounced back in a big way, coming
away with a 8-2 win.
The Centennials now lead the best-of-seven PJHL Doherty Division quarter-final 3-0.
Jamie Damignani scored the other Merchants goal late in the game.
Ben Demoe led the Centennials with two goals, while Darcy Winkler, Jake
Ertel, Graham Watson, Kobe Roe, Matt Patton, and Curtis Anderson all
netted one each.
Game 4 of the series is Friday at 8pm in Norwich.
