This was supposed to be a huge week for Waterford’s Lexi Paulmert and her Liberty University Flames teammates.
They were supposed to be in Frisco, TX, trying to win another American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 title. But with the COVID-19 pandemic taking over the world, Paulmert and her teammates will have to wait until next year to try and win the school’s third-straight ACHA D1 title in a row, and fourth in six attempts.
Despite it all, the No. 1 ranked ACHA team in the country, where the Waterford resident is a sophomore forward, captured the inaugural Women’s Midwest College Hockey title in dramatic fashion recently.
Senior forward Alex Smibert scored the game-winner with 16.7 seconds remaining in regulation to beat Minot State 2-1 to capture the championship and earn an automatic berth to the national championship.
Paulmert played in 25 games this season, scoring three goals and two assists.
