OMHA playdowns: Rockets midget final is as tight as it gets

By Darryl G. Smart

The Delhi Knights of Columbus Rockets road to the Ontario minor Hockey Association midget C final was about as smooth as it gets. And they knew once they got to that championship series, it would be a tough one.

They were correct about that.

The Delhi Rockets opened its Ontario Minor Hockey Association final over the weekend with the Mariposa Lightning taking a 3-1 lead in the best-of-six point series that has gone to overtime in every game.

On Friday, in Little Britain, regulation time and overtime solved nothing, as the two teams played to a 3-3 draw.

Sunday, in front of a great crowd in Delhi, nothing again was solved in regulation time. But this time, the Lightning struck with two minutes remaining in overtime to come away with a 4-3 victory.

Game 3 of the series is back in Delhi Wednesday at 8pm.

MIDGET BB

The Caledonia Thunder will now play for the provincial championship.

On Saturday at home, the Thunder scored a 4-3 win over the Fort Erie Meteors in Game 5 of its OMHA midget BB semifinal. With the win, the Thunder take the best-of-six point semifinal series 6-4.

They now face the winner of the semifinal between the Collingwood Blackhawks and Stirling Blues. That series is tied 5-5, with Game 6 Monday.

MIDGET DD

The Norwich Knighthawks will face the Flesherton Golden Hawks for the OMHA midget DD championship.

After beating the Drayton Defenders in three-straight games, they now wait for its OMHA final to begin.

Times and dates for the best-of-six point series has yet to be determined.

ATOM BB

The Tillsonburg Tornadoes now have an opponent for the OMHA atom BB championship.

After disposing of the Fort Erie Meteors in three-straight games they will play the Collingwood Blackhawks.

Times and dates for the best-of-six point series have yet to be determined.

Bantam C

The Hagersville Hawks run to a OMHA bantam C title has ended.

On Friday in Alvinston, the Hawks dropped a 4-3 decision to the East Lambton Eagles. With the victory, the Eagles win the best-of-six point semifinal series 6-2.

The Eagles will take on the Minto Mad Dogs in the final.
