Austin Kukielka can now get used to wearing the No. 1 on his bike and jersey.
The local rider, from Vanessa, took home the top spot in the 50cc 4-6 class at the 2021 Walton TransCan Amateur Grand National Championship.
Kukiela, sponsored by R&A Kukielka Farms, won the first moto and followed that up with another victory to earn the top spot on the podium.
Kukielka was certainly not the only local rider to get on the podium.
Waterford’s Cody Meatherall got a chance to jump onto the podium twice at teh event.
Sponsored by TMR Motocross, Cobra Mini Cycles Canada and Titan Cycle, Meatherall finished second overall in the 50cc 7-8 class and 50cc GP.
In the 50cc 7-8 event, Meatherall placed second in the first and third motos, and finished third in the second moto.
In the 50cc GP race, Meatherall placed second in all three motos.
Brenner Lamens, from Courtland, was also busy on the track. Sponsored by Gopher Dunes, D&D Moto Products, Arbonne Mx, Streib Trucking, Outliers Hockey Development Group, Lammens Plumbing & Contracting, Lammens finished in third spot in the 85cc 7-11 division. After winning the first moto, Lammens had a second-place finish in the second moto, before running into some trouble in the third moto finishing 16th.
Simcoe’s Ethan Stevenson earned a pair of Intermediate top-10 finishes.
He placed sixth in the Open Intermediate division and seventh in the 250 Intermediate races.
Sponsored by Autism Mx, Bikers For Autism, Prevision Cycle Works, Swift Hoist Services, Gp Bikes, More Than Moto, Rainford Auto, Works Connection, Split Designs, Stevenson finished third, seventh and 11th to earn the sixth spot in Open Intermediate. He finished eighth, ninth, and sixth in the 250 Intermediate field.
Liam O’Farrell had another solid day of racing. The Paris resident finished second in the first and third motos and third in the second moto to earn second place in the plus-25 division.
In Two Stroke action, Simcoe’s Nathan Murray raced his way to a 10th place finish. Murray, sponsored by Titan Racing, Mckee Sports, finished 13th in the first moto, then 11th and eighth.
Walker Murray, sponsored by Titan Racing, Mckee Sports, also from Simcoe, finished sixth in the Tykes race.
