The Hagersville Hurricanes were pushed to the limit on Tuesday, but they got the job done and punched a ticket to the Athletic Association of Brant Haldimand Norfolk District 9 East senior boys volleyball final.
The Hurricanes, who were the top seed in the division, dug deep, defeating the Waterford Wolves 3-2 (20-25, 27-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13) in a five game division semifinal thriller.
The Hurricanes will now face the Dunnville Panthers, who disposed of the Cayuga Warriors 3-1 (28-26, 25-11, 22-25, 25-20) in the other semifinal.
The D9 East final takes place Thursday at Hagersville Secondary School after the junior final at 4:30pm.
In the junior semifinals, the Waterford Wolves swept the Dunnville Panthers 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-14) in one semifinal. The result of the semifinal between the Cayuga Warriors and Hagersville Hurricanes was not reported.
The winners of the D9 East Division finals will then take on the West champ in the first-ever AABHN D9 final. Those games will take place on November 16 beginning at 3pm at the home of the highest seeded senior team.
The West playoffs were postponed Tuesday because of a COVID-19 precaution, with first-round matchups taking place Monday at 3pm. The junior semifinals between the Holy Trinity Titans and Valley Heights Bears, and the Simcoe Sabres and Delhi Raiders will take place at Simcoe Composite School. The senior games will be at Valley Heights Secondary School and will feature the Raiders against the Titans and Bears against the Sabres.
