Thanks to COVID-19 precautions, the Athletic Association of Brant Haldimand Norfolk District 9 boys volleyball playoffs have been moved to next week.
“We had to move it because of a close contact situation at Valley Heights,” AABHN vice president Tyler Backus. “We wanted to make sure everyone gets the chance to play. That’s what this is about at the end of the day.”
As the AABHN District 9 girls basketball playoffs were taking place today, word of a close contact situation was going to affect boys volleyball.
“We would have to forfeit our junior game,” Valley Heights Bears coach Joe Hamm said. “We would be losing one of our starting seniors as well.”
Backus said Simcoe Composite School physical education teacher Greg Pajor told him they would have to not play because they played the Bears last week.
“We just want to make this thing as safe as possible for everyone,” Backus said. “And we didn’t want anyone winning by forfeit.”
Originally scheduled for Tuesday at Valley Heights Secondary School, the District 9 boys volleyball playoffs will take place on November 8 in two locations. VHSS will host the senior games. The Delhi Raiders and Holy Trinity Titans will play at 3pm, while the Bears and Simcoe Sabres play at 4:30pm.
The junior games will take place the same day at Simcoe Composite School. The Titans play the Bears at 3pm, while the Sabres and Raiders play at 4:30pm.
The AABHN District 9 East Division playoffs will take place Tuesday as scheduled at Dunnville Secondary School beginning at 12pm.
