Raiders and Bears bring home CWOSSA A volleyball silver

The Delhi Deistrict Secondary School raiders and Valley Heights Secondary School Bears collected silver medals at the central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association girls A volleyball championships in Walkerton.

After going 3-0 in round robin and semifinal action, the Bears lost 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 25-13) to the Walkerton District Community School Riverhawks in the final.

To get to the championship game, the Bears earned first place in their pool thanks to a 2-0 record. They beat the Rockway Mennonite College Flames 2-1 (24-26, 27-25, 15-13) in a thriller, and Peninsula Shores District School Phoenix 2-0 (25-14, 25-19).

To punch a ticket to the final, the Bears beat the Woodland Christian High School Cavaliers 2-0 (25-17, 25-19).

And with the silver medal and Woodland Christian High School hosting the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association A championships, the Bears earned a berth to the provincial championships.

JUNIOR

The Delhi Raiders had a much different route to the CWOSSA junior girls A volleyball final.

The Raiders started out hot, beating the Wellington Heights Secondary School Wolverines, from Mount Forest, 2-0 (25-20, 25-14), and the Rockway Flames 2-0 (25-9, 26-24), before dropping the final round robin game 2-0 (25-19, 25-18 to the Kincardine & District Secondary School Knights.

The 2-1 round robin record put the Raiders in second place, giving them another shot at the Knights in the final. This time around the Raiders made it a nail biter, losing 2-1 (25-23, 16-25, 15-11).
