It was a great weekend for a pair of hockey Haldimand teams in tournament action.
The Haldimand RiverCats U13 B teams and Hagersville Hawks U11 team came home with gold medals from their tournaments in St. Catharines and Paris.
In St. Catharines, the RiverCats got very accustomed to tight hockey games, winning three-straight games, including a 2-1 win over the Burlington Barracudas to win the Brock Jr. Badgers Tournament.
The RiverCats got off to a rocky start Friday, thanks to a 2-1 loss to the Wilmot Wolverines and 0-0 tie with the Barracudas.
Saturday was different though and the RiverCats played shut down hockey, beating the Oshawa Lady Generals 1-0 to earn a spot in the semifinal.
On Sunday, the RiverCats punched their ticket to the final thanks to a 3-1 victory over the Wolverines, before beating the Barracudas.
In Paris, the Hawks also got on a roll after a slow start to go 4-1-1, which included a 3-0 win over the Aylmer Flames to claim the Rob Johnston Memorial Rep Tournament.
Friday, the Hawks played the Kawartha Coyotes to a 2-2 tie.
Saturday, they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Flames before getting back on track with a 3-1 victory over the Norwich Knighthawks.
Playoff Sunday saw the Hawks beat the Ayr Flames 7-2, before handing the INgersoll Express a 4-1 loss to get into the final against the Aylmer Flames.
