The Caledonia Corvairs wanted to set the tone early in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs. They certainly did in Game 1 of their best-of-seven GOJHL Golden Horseshoe Conference quarter-final with the Buffalo Regals Juniors
On Tuesday at home, the Corvairs outshot its opponents 56-11 en route to a 7-1 victory, to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Cole Tymkin got things going early, with Marino Moro adding another midway through the first period.
Ryan Littlejohn struck 18 seconds into the second period, before Moro added his second of the game, and Nick Giunta made it a five-goal lead.
The Corvairs kept coming in the third period. Danyk Druin and Dylan D’Agostino netted goals, before Brendan Krawczyk broke Aiden Hughes’ shutout bid.
Hughes made 10 saves to get the win, while Jagger Maving had a solid game for the Regals, making 49 stops.
The two teams don’t get much rest, with Game 2 of the series Wednesday at 7pm in Buffalo. Game 3 is Saturday back in Caledonia at 7:30pm.
