Mounties and Navy Vets knotted up at 1-1

The Paris Mounties Jr Hockey knew they would be in for a fight in their Provincial Junior Hockey League Doherty Division quarter-final against the Woodstock Navy Vets.
Friday in Woodstock, Kyle Brezinski scored the winner, while Justin Hergott made 42 stops to lead the Mounties to a 2-1 win.
Nathan Weller scored the other Mounties goal, while Jacob Rooke responded for the Navy Vets.
Saturday in Paris, the Navy Vets scored twice in the second and third periods to take a 5-3 victory.
Kyle Walker scored two goals, while Reid Campbell, Tom McFarlane, and Chris Thompson added one each.
Shawn General, Matt Mueller, and Austin Mumby replied for the Mounties.
Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is Friday at 7:45pm, while Game 4 is Sunday at 6:20pm in Paris.

Merchants down a pair to Centennials

The Norwich Jr C Merchants have gotten close to the Ayr Centennials in their best-of-seven PJHL Doherty Division quarter-final. But they haven’t been able to get over the hump yet.
Thursday, in the series opener, the Centennials got two second-period goals from Eric Maltby and one from Nolan Kelly, to lead their team to a 3-2 victory.
Benjamin Cripps and Simon Storoschuk scored to get the Merchants within a goal. But that’s as close as they could get.
Ryan Baux was fantastic between the Centennials pipes, making 37 save. Zach Johnston made 22.
On Friday in Norwich, the centennials struck three times in the third period to come from behind a take Game 2 4-3.
Blake Pow led the Merchants with two goal, and Jake Luke added one.
Curtis Anderson led the Centennials with a pair of goals, while Cooper Page and Jake Ertel netted one each.
Game 3 of the series is Thursday in Ayr at 7:30pm, with Game 4 in Norwich Friday at 8pm.

Ursu sees lots of rubber

Caleb Ursu is doing what he can between the pipes to give the Burford Bulldogs Junior Hockey Club a puncher’s chance against the Tavistock Braves in its Provincial Junior Hockey League Doherty Division quarter-final.
Friday, the Braves outshot the Bulldogs 46-13, while Justin Labrie scored twice in a 6-0 victory at home.
Patrick Vulgan, Drew Gerth, Bradley Smith, and Mitch McKay added one goal each.
Saturday in Burford, the Braves out shot the Bulldogs 50-18 in a 4-1 win.
Gerth led the way with two goals, with Derek Jensen and Zach Otto pitching in with one each.
Connor MacPhee netted the Bulldogs’ lone goal.
Game 3 is Friday in Tavistock, with Game 4 set for Saturday in Burford. Both games are at 7:30pm.

Applejacks and Firebirds tied 1-1

4-1 has been a popular score in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Doherty Division quarter-final between the Wellesley Applejacks and New Hamburg Firebirds.
Friday, the Firebirds struck twice in the third period to pull away with the 4-1 win in Game 1.
Saturday in New Hamburg, it was the Applejacks turn to score twice in the third to take Game 2 4-1.
Game 3 is Wednesday in Wellesley. Game 4 is Friday in New Hamburg, with Game 5 Saturday back in Wellesley. All games are at 7:30pm.
