The Caledonia Corvairs looked very well rested upon their return to Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action this weekend.
Returning from the Christmas break, the Corvairs were running on all cylinders in a pair of victories.
Saturday at home, Nick Giunta scored twice and added a helper in his team’s 6-1 win over the Niagara Falls Jr Canucks.
Giunta, Ryan Wells and Matthew Bridgewater gave the Corvairs a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Jaleel Adams then responded for the Canucks on the powerplay midway through the second frame. But with five seconds to go in the second period, Nick McHugh added another Corvairs goal, before Wells and Giunta each scored their second goals on the night to add some insurance.
The next night, McHugh, Dylan D’Agostino, Wells and Danyk Drouin scored during a 15-shot first-period barrage en route to a 5-1 win over the Welland Jr. Canadians.
Zach Manazzone added to the cause in the second period, before Dario Tesoro was the lone Jr. Canadians player to beat Aiden Hughes.
Hughes made 16 saves in the win, while Nicholas Kidd took the loss with a 52-stop effort.
The Corvairs still sit at the top of the GOJHL and the Golden Horseshoe Conference with its 31-3-0-1 record.
Thursday they are on the road against the Thorold Blackhawks at 7:07pm, before returning home Saturday at 7:30pm against the Hamilton Kilty B’s Junior Hockey Club.
