Kyle Lev and Chris Lazar put on a pitching clinic Friday night at Arnold Anderson Stadium. Starting for the Brantford Red Sox and Hamilton Cardinals respectively, Lev and Lazar left opposing batters miffed during their starts combining no runs, 18 strikeouts and only three walks.
Unfortunately for the Sox, a two-run homerun by Ryan Burnside off of a Mackenzie Major offering was all the Cardinals needed in a 3-0 win.
Lev was fantastic for the Sox, allowing no runs on six hits, while striking out nine Cardinals in six innings of work. Not to be outdone, Lazar got the win thanks to his seven inning of no-run baseball. He also struck out nine batters, and gave up seven hits.
Offensively for the Sox, Gianfranco Morello, Colton Fountain, and Matt Pilarczyk each had two hits. Unfortunately they left nine runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the fifth and seventh innings.
Saturday’s game in Barrie against the Baycats was postponed, leaving the Red Sox with a 1-6 record. This week they hit the road Tuesday against the Cardinals at 7:30pm, before playing three games in four days. Thursday the Red Sox are on the road against the Welland Jackfish at 7:30pm. Friday the Kitchener Panthers come to Arnold Anderson Stadium for a 8pm start, before finishing things up against the Cardinals on the road Sunday at 2pm.
